At the beginning of his adventure, the prototype of this model was used in 24-hour races. It was exhibited for the first time for sale at the Paris Motor Show in 2006, three years after the previously presented prototype of the Le Mans Audi R8, from which it owes its name. The version approved for production was created by the Italian designer Walter de' Silva, who took part in the design work of the Polish Fiat 125p. It is worth mentioning that this model was manufactured by a subsidiary of the German concern, quattro GmbH, which already had experience in building Audi sports models.

The R8 is certainly one of the most luxurious S-Class cars. Its modern body and technological innovations were quickly appreciated. It was the first approved car to have headlights equipped with LED diodes. What's more, Audi has also focused on improving driving comfort and adjusting engine noise levels. In the following years he was awarded the title of World Performance Car of the Years, which was also awarded the next version of Audi R8 - V10. Interestingly, he also appeared on the big screen in "Iron Man" as a car of Tony Stark himself.
