Ford Mustang - a legend captured in the frame

For three weeks, Ford Mustang seduced San Francisco residents with the roar of the engine. That's how long the famous ten-minute chase sequence in Peter Yates' 1968 film "Bullitt" lasted. Behind the wheel of Steve McQueen. Wanted? Dodge Charger. Eyes are covered by the smoke of worn-out rubber, accompanied by a squeak of tires that tears everyday life, and the streets are evaporated with testosterone. A new stage in the history of cinema has begun. The legend of the automotive industry has emerged.

The model used in the film is the Ford Mustang GT 390 Fastback. 50 years after the premiere of the film, the American company decided to pay tribute to the car, which was honored by the Oscar-winning production. Designer Darell Behmer admits that he was thinking about Steve McQueen's career while developing the car design concept. Therefore, the silhouette of the car is characterized by a non-intrusive charm and natural magnetism of attracting attention. No wonder that the reopened version was baptized with Bullitt. A bow from another well-known director, Quentin Tarantino himself, adds to the story. In his "Grindhouse: Death Proof", the main character drives an identical model marked with the famous registration number JIZ 109.

Ford Mustang 1967, a car called desire

Models produced in the late 1960s by the American brand were the object of sighs, not only because of film connotations. The car was distinguished by its excellent appearance. In addition to the Ford T, the Mustang was built in 1964 and is the most recognizable car. Subsequent versions sold on the trunk, and the sales results were always impressive for the Detroit dealers.

The apogee took place in 1967. The frenzied popularity has already established itself, but the customers still did not have enough of it. They demanded the Mustangs. Lee Iacocca, the originator of the project, set an ambitious goal for the team. The task was to create a car with a sporty silhouette, which will be willingly bought by a wide group of customers. This is why it was possible to change the appearance of the car according to one's own preferences. The ideal was born and it was Ford Mustang. Combustion was economical, and so customers decided to install a more powerful V8 engine.

Ford Mustang GT 500. Speed knows no limits

In the U.S. automotive industry there is only one serious competitor with similar performance and position to Ford Mustang. The price of the Camaro Chevrolet is much higher and is sometimes beyond the financial reach of most drivers. One competition does not expire, as evidenced by the race after crossing the speed barrier.

Ford has made countless modifications over decades of market presence. As a result, the American company gained new members of the family of the unique Ford Mustang brand. The technical data were adapted to different needs. More or less sporty versions were created. However, the Shelby series has proven that these cars are designed to break the laws of physics. The Ford Mustang GT 500 in 2012 became the first serial model to overcome the 200 miles/hour barrier, i.e. 322 km/h.

The sixth generation of vehicles has already been presented in 2013. The Ford stand in Barcelona was the most crowded place during the automotive fair. No wonder. Because even if traveling the legendary model is only a dream, everyone wants to sit in Mustang for a moment, turn the key and feel like a hero of sensational cinema.
