Audi R8 V10 Plus - business card for Audi Sport

The name of Audi has been changed from Quattro GmbH to Audi Sport for half a year now. However, it was only now that the subject matter and possibilities of this creation have been presented. Among other things, the R8 V10 Plus was used for this purpose.

Quattro from Italian stands for four digits, and in the world of automotive industry has always been associated with the Audi brand. Specifically with a two-axle drive of these German cars. Quattro's roots go back to 1983, when the production of rally, racing and sports cars in general, which can travel on public roads, began. These cars were marked with the letters S and RS. Unfortunately, not everyone knew how to recognize them, so it was decided on a new name for the company - Audi Sport.

Company name

The name Audi Sport R8 V10 Plus sounds good, right? This form is justified in tradition. Initially, the top model was Audi Sport Quattro GmbH. The car could be purchased collectively for 200,000 West German brands. The sporty version was based on the Audi Quattro civil model, but due to the huge number of modifications it became unique.

However, the name of the company does not translate into cars, at least until now. Journalists propose something special to Audi. Their top models bear quite ordinary markings like RS3, RS5, and the most popular continues to be the Audi R8 V10 Plus.

Dream factory

At the top of the list of the best models the R8 reigns today in its strongest incarnation. These cars are manufactured at the Böllinger Höfe factory, opened in 2014. They owe their uniqueness to the work taking place in the company. Around 18, 19 Audi R8 leaves every day. Thanks to the longer time of the car at the workplace, it is possible to focus more on quality, which is of key importance.

The first stage of production is the stamping plant, where the structure of aluminium alloys is created. As much as 70% of the body structure is made of this material. Another important material is carbon fibre, which is used to make a partition between the cab and the engine compartment. The finished body in white weighs only 200 kg. To make it easier to compare, the entire drive train weighs 480 kg.

The track for your needs

Audi has its own test centre near Neuburg. You can test new ideas and organize training. It was there that a demonstration of the capabilities of the top Audi model was organized. A 610 hp 5.2 litre engine had to be tested under controlled conditions.

Test laps were done following the normal R8 with 70 hp less power. It turned out, however, that other drivers had a problem catching up with the leader. He made up for all the missing horses with his skills and it was difficult to keep up with him.

This makes you think hard. It turns out that just as important as the machine itself is who drives it. Skills are key in this case. This is particularly noticeable on the front tyre treads, which disappear more slowly for professional drivers.

In addition, the new R8 is fantastic. You can see a big difference compared to the V10 motor. The interior of the car has also been modernized. The engine starts with the button on the steering wheel, which gives the feeling of sitting in a professional car.

The buttons for selecting the driving mode will also appear. They are particularly useful on the track. In Performance Mode, depending on whether the surface is wet or dry, the system will distribute the drive among the axles accordingly.

The new Audi R8 features a seven-speed S-Tronic double clutch transmission, which is significantly faster than a manual transmission. The weakest in such conditions are tyres and brakes. In everyday driving, the ceramic system will do better.

The future of RS

Audi is preparing many new products in the coming years. One thing is certain, however, that the R8 will remain a gem in the Audi Sport range.
