How to polish the paint
Polishing the varnish is probably the most effective treatment we deal with in the case of detailing. At the same time, it is the best means of restoring freshness and radiance to the body. Not only does it remove scratches and blemishes, it also contributes to the fact that the vehicle starts to shine again.
Polishing can be done either manually or by machine. There is a lot of technician, so it is worth remembering that each detailer has a slightly different approach to this procedure. Initially, therefore, it is simply necessary to gain experience and at some point you will gain knowledge about which solutions are the most effective in our case. Machine polishing is considered to be more effective than manual polishing, but we must not forget that it requires us to have the right equipment. There are two types of polishers that you can be interested in - orbital and rotary. Rotary polishers differ from orbital polishers in that they rotate only around their own axis. Orbital, in turn, rotate along the entire orbit.
The biggest advantage of mechanical polishers is their ability to use woolen pads, at the same time we should also appreciate the more efficient work with the use of highly abrasive pastes. Thanks to the power of this type of equipment, it is possible to cope even with considerable damage to the paint, in which manual polishing remains helpless. This does not mean, however, that we are dealing with an option free from any defects. Mechanical polishers are designed for people with more experience, because when the revolutions are too high and the person dealing with the treatment has not yet acquired the appropriate sense, they can burn the paint. Orbital polishers are much safer in this respect and this is what inexperienced detailers most often reach for. Unfortunately, they are also less efficient.
If we have already decided to choose the right equipment, we can proceed with specific actions. The first steps are not excessively complicated, because we must first wash and then dry the car without forgetting about the need to clean it with clay. Polishing the paint itself requires a sheltered area such as a garage. Otherwise, weather conditions can be an additional hindrance, as is the case with dust floating everywhere. Do not forget to tape the elements that were made of plastic before polishing, so not only the handle, but also the gasket. If possible, their dismantling will improve our safety. When the car is ready, we can assess the condition of the paint.
This time the best helper will be halogen, because in good light scratches are much better visible. It is the actual condition of the paint that is crucial for the selection of the best paste to provide the perfect care. If we are interested in highly abrasive pastes, i.e. pastes which have a reputation of being extremely effective, a good solution is to use a gauge and use it to evaluate the thickness of the paint. Once we know the eggs is the scale of the problem, we can proceed with the polishing itself.
If the scratches are deep and the lacquer is heavily damaged, it is best to use fine sandpaper and then move on to this with higher parameters. Caution is recommended, but experience is also useful. When polishing by machine, it is best to start with a strong or medium abrasive paste and pad. The final stage of our activities should be the use of polishing paste and finishing pad.
