Washer fluid - how to choose? What's the best?

Contrary to appearances, the choice of washer fluid is an important decision, which is important not only for the comfort of driving, but also for safety and the pace at which the wipers will wear out. A lot depends on this little thing, so it will be good to know how to distinguish a good liquid from a bad one.

Summer or winter?

Winter washer fluid differs from the summer one only in the addition of antifreeze substances. Most often it will be methyl alcohol, less ethyl alcohol, but there may also be other compounds. The only objective will be to reduce the freezing temperature, while at the same time introducing organic additives that affect the ability to remove broken insects on the glass. Summer windscreen washer fluid does not work in winter, not only because it freezes and damages components, but also because instead of removing dirt from the windscreen, it would freeze to them and damage the windscreen wipers. It is worth remembering, because at a temperature of 0 degrees the liquid will not freeze in the tanks, but it can already be so on the glass.

Can I mix washer fluid?

Such a question is very often connected with questions about the time of changing fluid to winter. The washer fluid will always be water-based and can therefore all be mixed together. Of course, this will not always be a good idea from a practical point of view.

Of course, it is unlikely that high frosts will occur in the autumn, so that the winter fluid can be mixed calmly with the rest of the summer fluid. If one of the fluids is badly washed the glass and left streaks, it is better to give it up, instead of mixing it with a better fluid. In order to slightly improve the washing properties of winter fluid, you can add a little bit of summer fluid concentrate to it.

When preparing liquids from the concentrate, remember to maintain appropriate proportions and mix the entire volume thoroughly.

Washer fluid additives

Fragrances - washer fluids that are odourless are not readily available, but can be found. This is easier in summer than in winter, because winter fluids, because they contain alcohols with short chains, also have a quite specific smell. washer fluid without methanol but with other antifreeze additives should not irritate the driver.

Alcohol - a liquid with alcohol is prepared because of its washing properties. As a result, it will also be possible to remove leaves, insects and dust effectively. The advantage is the quick evaporation and thus the windscreens are not anointed after the wipers have passed through them.

Glycerine is an organic compound, a complex alcohol that will condition the wipers and is responsible for proper hydration. This is important because it can protect against pen damage from dust and dust rubbing. Glycerin fluids are the best choice for drivers who travel in difficult conditions.

Prices of liquids are varied, of course they should not be too expensive, because the basis of every liquid is water. Winter fluids will of course be a little more expensive due to more additives.
